Biography
Aimee McDonald graduated from the University of Iowa in 2001 with her Bachelor’s in Psychology. Runner since the age of 10 she developed a passion for athletics at a young age. During her time at UI she became a Certified Nursing Assistant at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with the intent being a resume builder towards getting into physical therapy school. She went on to attend Kirkwood Community College pursuing a dual degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physical Therapist Assistant. After completing the OTA part of the program she decided it was not the way she wanted to help people. Being a nursing assistant for 9 ½ years she went back to Kirkwood Community College to become a Registered Nurse. She went on to work for a Top 3 Chicago hospital, Rush University before becoming a travel nurse. She traveled to Dallas working for Baylor Hospital before moving to Long Beach. She has now worked in several Magnet hospitals(including USC, UCLA, UCI) and 40-50 hospitals across the LA/Orange County area as telemetry (cardiac monitoring) nurse working for a company that fills the staffing needs for hospitals. She has seen the different approaches hospitals take to treat various diseases, including what works and what doesn’t. Due to her extensive experience prior to becoming a nurse, Aimee has never once had any of her patients have their heart stop during her shift. She has often referred to herself as the “Healing Nurse.”
Now 18 years later she believes that diet causes the majority of disease and is also the cure to disease. Suffering from an undiagnosed hypothyroid herself she has read copious amounts of material on nutrition, taken nutrition courses and is now certified by MetabolicEffect.com in nutrition and the American College of Sports Medicine as a fitness trainer. She is a recovering sugar and coffee addict that follows a gluten-free, vegan diet to heal her thyroid and to have the amazing energy she so desires to have.
Aimee has completed 4 marathons (Detroit, 2 Chicago, Long Beach), 2 Half Marathons, Beachbody Classic Physique Competition and has been in a fitness feature on Los Angeles KTLA Channel 5 News.
