"Real food" vs. Shakeology. Hmm. Your friend's thinking about "real food" is good in principle, but she's 30 years behind the times, so it's flawed in practice. The nutritional content of an apple is about 1/5 of what it was 20 years a ...go. Even if everything we buy is from the whole foods store, the soil has been so depleted in North American and Western farmlands that, generally speaking, our food has lost over half it's nutritional content per calorie since 1980. This is one reason why we eat, and still feel hungry - our bodies have not been nourished. It's also why the ingredients in Shakeology had to come from Shangri-la, where nutrient rich soils still produce "superfoods," (which by the way, are only called superfoods because our grocery store foods are so high in calories and low in nutritional value. There was a time when all the food on the planet was "superfood," but that was in a place called Eden and that's a different, but related, story. I digress.) This is why one serving of Shakeology has the nutritional content of 5 trips to the salad bar. (In a perfect world we wouldn't need 5 trips to the salad bar to get that nutrition. But today we do.) A pregnant woman will naturally gain weight, adding fat to her body to support the increased energy demands of two humans living on the same system, and to support post-partum lactation. But the weight does not have to be radically excessive, nor should it be. When women don't lose the baby weight after delivery, I suspect an examination of the foods they consumed during pregnancy would be at least partly to blame. Consider what happens when we eat dairy products. Milk-producing cows are artificially given hormones to keep them producing milk. Drink the milk or eat the cheese from that cow while you're pregnant, and ...you can connect the dots. DOCTORS like Shakeology because it delivers almost all the vitamins and minerals pregnant women need without having to take prenatal vitamins. But that's only 1/2 the story - the other 1/2 is bio-availability of those nutrients in Shakeology. The nutrients in Shakeology are derived directly from whole foods sources - it is a whole foods product - the body recognizes organic sources of minerals and vitamins and absorbs them far more readily than non-organic sources. The nutrition is absorbed and used used by the body, hormones are released from the gut telling the brain "I'm full" and you don't pee out the nutrients like you do with non-organic supplements.
Hit me up if you are interested in trying Shakeology!
